Welcome to English Prompts
English Prompts is the home of several random activity generators. Check out our creative writing, discussion, and activity prompts by clicking on the links below. Originally designed for English-Language Learners (ELLs), these prompts can be used in English Language Arts (ELA) class or any Creative Writing class. Some writers use these for inspiration, too. Don't feel you can't jump in if you're not a student! All creatives welcome!
- Stories Without End is a collection of story prompts, stories that end in the middle. It's up to your students to write their own end.
- What Would You Do? generates random hypothetical situations. Get a conversation started in class in no time!
- Improv Situation Generator generates random improv lines, situations, and characters to get an improvisational scene going quickly. Great way to practice pronunciation, pragmatics, and fluency!
- Reflection Prompts are writing prompts that ask students to write about themselves. What do they like? What goals do they have? What would their TED Talk be about? What have they done and what do they hope to do in their lives? Great for daily journaling practice!
